Welcome! We’re pleased that you’re interested in Alton Lions Club

We are a group of service-minded men and women who are interested in doing volunteer work to improve our community.

We are young people, families and seniors.

To become a Lion is to become an active volunteer, a member of a respected international organisation, a leader in your community and a friend to people in need.

Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service club organisation with more than 1.35 million members in more than 45,000 clubs worldwide.

Lions are everywhere with active men and women in more than 206 countries and geographic areas.

Lions has a dynamic history and was founded in 1917 to volunteer for many different kinds of community projects – including caring for the environment, feeding the hungry, fighting blindness and aiding seniors, the disabled, the disadvantaged and the young.

Lions support local children and schools through scholarships, recreation and mentoring and with many projects, including the Peace Poster Contest and Youth Camps and Exchange.

Lions award grants and since 1968, the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) has awarded more than £400 million in grants to support Lions humanitarian projects around the world.

Alton Lions Club was formed in 1972 and has since become a respected volunteer service organisation within Alton and is active in:

  • Fund raising for local (and sometimes national & international) good causes.
  • Welfare activities for those in need.
  • Social activities – enjoying the fun and fellowship that goes with being a Lion.

To become a Lion, you must be of legal majority, good moral character and good reputation in your community.

Alton Lions Club welcomes new members, either to join the club as fully-fledged Lions or to offer support and help on an ad hoc basis.

If you are interested in the idea of contributing to your local community by joining in the Lions activities, or even simply attending our social events, hit on the Events icon for the drop-down page on our site, where you will find a list of recent and future happenings which will give you a flavour of how we Lions put back into local society a little of what we all take out of it, and usually have a lot of fun doing so!

You may like to come along to one of our monthly Business Meetings (every second Thursday of the month at the Swan Hotel) or help us set up and run the monthly Craft Market stalls in the Market Square (every second Saturday), or join in one of the individual events listed – which ever you choose, you will receive a warm welcome from like-minded folks and enjoy a new experience.

Just give us a ring on 0845 833 2701, or e-mail us on – you never know – life might not ever be the same again!
