Party in the Park Thank You

Dear Sir,

Following the tremendous success of this year’s Alton Lions ‘Party in the Park’ celebrating the 370th anniversary of the 1643 English civil war ‘Battle of Alton’ I can confirm that a total donation of £8000 was made to the Children at Treloars. This fantastic sum was made up from funds raised at the event in Alton Public Gardens on Saturday 8th June and from the month long raffle. The winner of the £2000 1st prize was a lady from Farnham who bought her ticket on the day at the ‘Party in the Park’.

In addition to this fantastic sum the event also enabled other local organisations and charities to raise funds for themselves and awareness to their activities. These included Alton Community Association and Youth Club; Alton Charities Together; Action Research; Alton MS Society; Farnham Rep; Friends of Butts School; Friends of Curtis Museum; It’s a Girls Thing; 2nd Alton Brownies and Alton Model Railway with Steve and his ride on model steam railway.

On behalf of The Lions Club of Alton I would like to thank our sponsors Sir Ray Tindle (Herald Newspaper Group), Alton Town Council, Molson Coors (UK), First Exchange, Toyshed and the Newbury Building Society all of whose support made the event possible. The sponsorship enables Alton Lions to stage a ‘free’ event in the Public Gardens which this year included 17th Century Life & Times, Twistopher with his traditional Punch & Judy, Charlie the Clown, Junior Morris from Alton Infants School, live bands Tripwire and Symbolics and of course Elvis and his pink Cadillac who all together made for a great day. Also a big thank-you goes to all the local businesses who contributed prizes for the auction and raffle draw on the day.

Our thanks too go to Jon Colville and his team from Treloars who are our partners in planning, organising and staging the day’s event.

And finally our thanks go to all the people from Alton and the surrounding towns and villages that bought raffle tickets and attended and generously participated in the day and made it such a memorable event. (If you wish to see images of this year’s, and previous year’s, ‘Party in the Park’ go to our website www.altonlions.org.uk)

The Alton Lions ‘Party in the Park’ has now become an established part of our annual programme and next year’s event will be held on Saturday 14th June and will be themed on ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ –  Yo-ho-ho and all that!

Yours faithfully,

Sarah O’Donoghue

President,

The Lions Club of Alton
