Re: Philipines Disaster

Dear Sir,

Re: Philipines Disaster

Further to our letter in December last year, this is to let you know that the Alton Lions appeal for the Philippines disaster has helped Lions International, together with the Lions Clubs in the Philippines, to supply more than 500 Lifesaver Water Filtration units, so far, and these have provided immediate relief to hundreds of families.

Lions International and local Lions in the Philippines are liaising with the Mayor of Tacloban to distribute the Water Filtration Units alongside the blue Lions tents providing the two basic human essentials of clean water and shelter.

Hundreds of Lions are also on the ground helping to distribute food, shelter and other essential supplies but with so many families losing everything this is still an enormous challenge. Distribution has been arduous as the logistics of distributing to approximately 2,000 inhabited islands needs to be considered along with of the safety of the local Lions carrying out the work. These local Lions clubs will of course form the backbone of enabling Lions International to provide long term rebuilding and support needed for the whole recovery programme.

On behalf of the Lions Clubs of the Philippines, thank you again to all the kind people who gave so willingly to the appeal.

Yours faithfully,

Sarah O’Donoghue

President,
The Lions Club of Alton
