Type 2 Diabetes Awareness Event

In early March, the Alton Lions Club, in collaboration with Alton Primary Care Network (PCN), and Xyla Services organised a Type 2 Diabetes Awareness Event at the Alton Assembly Rooms. The objective of the event was to raise awareness in the local community about the significant impact of Type 2 Diabetes on a person’s health, and how lifestyle changes can mitigate individual risk.

Clare from Xyla Services led an interactive introduction at each session.

The programme featured concise presentations addressing diabetes-related topics, strategies for sustaining long-term physical activity, and a live cooking demonstration that filled the venue with pleasant aromas.

Mary from Munch provided an informative live plant-based cooking demonstration that was well received by attendees throughout the day.

Following these activities, attendees visited various stands that provided local support services, including exercise and nutrition guidance as well as risk assessments (such as blood pressure and BMI) conducted by a clinical team.

A big thank you to all those who gave their time on a Saturday to provide these services including:

  • ·      Wellhouse Nutrition

  •       Wellbeing Walking Group

  •        Inclusion - Specialist Alcohol Team

  •        Cardiac Rehab

  •        Cycling UK North Hampshire

  •        Munch CIC

  •        Alton Social Prescribers

  •        Clinical Team

  •        Xyla Services

Appreciation is also extended to all members of the Lions Club who contributed to the effort.

The clinical team carried out blood pressure and BMI assessments, facilitating important interventions and preventive discussions. Additionally, there were several referrals made to the Cardiac Rehabilitation team.
